March 28, 2016 Maria Usbeck announces debut LP Amparo; shares the sublime “Moai Y Yo”
One of the best things about living in Miami is the diversity. The way all the many unique cultures represent to make up our so-called “Magic City.” It has been a long time since a record captured that spirit so beautifully like Amparo, the solo debut full-length from former Selebrities frontwoman Maria Usbeck. Written + recorded in the south of Florida as well as Ecuador, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Barcelona, Lisbon, Easter Island, Costa Rica, L.A. and her home in Brooklyn over a span of three years. The record, produced by Chairlift’s Caroline Polacheck, “stems from Usbeck’s desire to compose in Spanish, her native language…is a travel diary, music made by a visiting outsider to tap into a shared core of human expression.” Such themes of exploration of both people + place hit very close to home. We look forward to reflecting alongside Amparo deep into the Spring/Summer months ahead. Listen to the majestic single “Moai Y Yo” below and get this powerful release May 27 via Cascine.
