Portland duo Pure Bathing Culture return with the new LP Pray For Rain, the follow-up to their excellent 2013 debut Moon Tides. Today they’ve unveiled the raw, willowy title track, which according to the band addresses “issues of looking inward and honest self-reflection”, and apparently also served as personal challenge from producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, The Walkmen) who “was demanding in their abandonment of clichés.”And while we were big fans of PBC’s previous perfectly executed brand of uplifting, coastal dream-pop, the reminiscence of which still can be heard here, it’s always refreshing to hear a band unafraid to embrace being uncomfortable. Pray for Rain is out October 23 on Partisan.
