After debuting their timeless pop gem “The Brae” back in 2014, followed up by two gorgeous EPs, and that unforgettably moving Air France tribute/cover, at long last New Zealand’s Yumi Zouma has announced its debut full-length Yoncalla, out this spring on the esteemed Cascine. “No longer limited or protected by distance” according to the guitarist Charlie Ryder whose members live in Auckland, Paris and New York, came together on tour to work on the record, marking the first time they had completed material being in the same place at the same time. That sense of closeness is evident on the breezy lead single “Keep it Close To Me” in which the band expresses a laidback yet palpable yearning rendered with the glow of a clear summer day. Yoncalla is out May 27 on limited vinyl via Cascine. Cover illustration by Henrietta Harris.
